The Game Brothas, Halik Stewart and Carmelo Lopez, better known as Nature Boy and Mr. Wonderful have been gracing stages and releasing music since the early 2000’s with high energy live performances, diverse, but bass heavy beat selections, and raw lyricism. Nature Boy, originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, first met his counterpart Mr. Wonderful during their high school years in Oakland, California. Originally known as a duo, the Game Brothas often perform and record as a quartet with frequent collaborators Mallski Wallski, who is the blood brother of Nature Boy, and producer/ vocalist Thomas Knockerson.
The group first started gaining recognition on the local scene by selling CD’s and their own line of merchandise at shows and other events. Their grassroots approach was enhanced by promoting their brand through social media, and performing as the opening act for a plethora of known artists such as Too $hort, Bone Thugs n' Harmony, Redman, E-40, Method Man, Andre Nickatina, Juelz Santana, and Tech n9ne among others.
The Game Brothas bring various styles with their music, from street tales to party music, to electronic pop and rock inspired anthems. Their diverse sound is fueled by a diverse list of inspirations, ranging from various genres such as hip hop, rock, soul, funk, and blues. Their original sound has gained street recognition in the Oakland-Bay Area, as well as securing fans across the globe, including UK radio Play.
After appearing on various compilations and mixtapes, the Game Brothas released their first official album “How the West Was Won” on August 30, 2011, through Game Brothas Entertainment and the Independent Distribution Collective. The group has been featured in various print and online publications such as DubCNN.com, EastBay Express, Stash Magazine, and more. The Game Brothas have also gained great notoriety for their animated music video “Stubby In My Lean” which was featured on YoRaps.com, and the graphic heavy video, “To Tha Beat” which gained over 13000 views on Worldstarhiphop.com. The group was also featured on the cover of Murder Dog Magazine, Nov. 2011 Collectors Issue, with a 2 page interview inside.
The Game Brothas have had several tracks in rotation on 106 KMEL, plus high placement on the Urban Mass Pool, DDK in Georgia, Ohio and Seattle DJ charts. Their 2009 track, “Priceless” was suppose to be featured on a bay area compilation album, but leaked onto the internet before its official release; causing controversy over various remixes, but led to the group gaining more exposure through commercial and independent radio play in various regions.
Following up on their 2011 retail release “How The West Was Won,” the Game Brothas plan to release more free albums and mixtapes in 2012 via their website www.GameBrothas.com and eventually release their second official retail album “The Royal Hustle,” later this year. The Game Brothas also plan to release more videos, and exclusive tracks that will feature some surprise guest from both the West Coast and Down South. The Game Brothas also plan to expand their GB t-shirt line, and release a Mallski Wallski solo album as well. With street smarts and business savvy, the Game Brothas plan to continue to take their brand to the next level by simply “choppin game.” The GB’s mantra is simple: “Ain’t no brotha like a Game Brotha brotha ‘cuz a Game Brotha brotha got game.”
